The biggest problem with oil is the smell. This precludes its use in homes and offices, and even extra ventilation doesn’t help. Wood pellets do not give off any smell.
Compared to coal
Nowadays, fireplaces and boilers that run on pellets are constructed in such a way that they automatically feed fuel to the burner. We cannot say this about stoves that use coal. The combustion of wood pellets is many times more efficient and the amount of residual ash does not exceed 1%. With coal, however, it is up to 35%. In addition, the ash from pellets can be used for fertiliser, whereas that from coal needs extra work and transport to be removed.
Compared to firewood
One of the great advantages of pellets is that the storage space for pellets is up to five times smaller than for firewood. There is also a big difference in efficiency. In the case of pellets, it is as high as 90-95%, whereas in the case of wood, it is much lower. The reason for this is the more sophisticated boiler equipment and the lower humidity of the pellets.
